Fin Fang Foom

Fin Fang Foom is a lesser known character in the Marvel Universe. He is a shape shifting alien from Maklu IV. Maklu IV is actually a pretty peaceful planet, but apparently that wasn’t to Foom’s liking so he and several others left their world in search of others to conquer. Foom and his allies landed on Earth around China in the 8th century. While his allies took on the shape of humans, Foom decided to stay on board in case anything went wrong and went into a hibernation state with the help of a special herb (don’t do drugs kids!).

Foom was accidentally awoken at one point during the 8th century and was discovered by humans. The Chinese humans saw his dragon like form and decided to put guards around Foom’s tomb and passed down that job from generation to generation. Upon seeing his true form they gave him the name Fin Fang Foom which translates to “He Whose Limbs Shatter Mountains and Whose Back Scrapes the Sun.”

Foom is most known for his appearance in the early Iron Man series. The Mandarin learned of the Valley of the Sleeping Dragon and went there to ransack Foom’s ship. This is where the Mandarin obtained the Ten Rings of Power. If that’s not bad enough, he proceeded to awaken Foom and use him to threaten the Chinese government. Both Foom and the Mandarin were stopped by Iron Man though.

Like I said, Foom is a lesser known character, sometimes good and sometimes bad. He hasn’t appeared in any recent comics that I know about, but he’s still pretty cool.
